The Crane Surgery operates an appointments-only system. This means that if you want to see one of the Doctors you must first contact the Surgery and make an appointment, except if it's a real emergency. We will always see real emergencies on a same-day basis.
We are available by telephone from 8.00 a.m. - 6.30 p.m. every day except Wednesday (our half day), when we do not take calls after 11.00 a.m. The surgery doors open at 8.30 and close at 6.00, except on the Wednesday, when they close at lunch-time. Our earliest Doctor's appointment is normally 8.30 a.m., and our latest is normally 5.20 p.m.

Wednesday is our half-day. On Wednesday afternoons urgent calls are covered by Dr Charlesworth on 01580 713622.
If you want to be seen on a same-day basis, and there are no appointments left, we will normally ask a Doctor to ring you back in the first instance.
The Crane Surgery is a training practice, so the Doctors will often have a GP Registrar (Trainee) or a student working with them, either seeing patients in tandem with them or separately.
Improved Access at Evenings/Weekends
On the 1st October 2018 Improved Access was launched nationwide and you can now see a GP or other healthcare professional during:
- weekday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.00pm
- Saturdays and Sundays
These appointments offered could be:
- at your registered practice
- another local GP practices
- another local NHS service - such as a General Practice Hub
What type of appointments will be available?
Evening appointments between 6.30pm – 8pm Monday to Friday will be offered by a practice in your area. These appointments will be offered by a range of clinical professionals.
On Saturdays, a clinical professional will be available between 9.00 am to 12.00 pm.
On Sundays and Bank Holidays a GP will be available between 9.00 am to 12.30 pm (at a hub in Tonbridge or Maidstone).
Who can book these appointments?
Improved Access appointments are available for all patients registered with a west Kent practice. However, it will be unlikely that you will be seen by your normal GP and it is likely that you will have to go to a different surgery to your registered practice for these appointments.
How can I book an appointment?
In order to book these appointments, you contact your surgery reception staff as normal. You will not be able to phone the reception staff on Saturdays, Sundays / Bank Holidays or between 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm Monday to Friday.

If you need advice over the telephone, please call the Surgery. We will take a message and ask the Doctor to ring you back.
Out of Hours arrangements
During the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, emergencies are dealth with by the NHS 111 service. Just dial 111 to reach them - calls are free from both land-lines and mobiles.
The Doctors provide minor surgery for certain problems; but if you are interested, please come to a normal surgery in the first place.
