When to go to the Chemist: The Common Ailments Scheme

There are some ailments for which you should really consult the Pharmacist rather than the Doctor, especially if you're entitled to free prescriptions.

  • Cold sores
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Constipation
  • Cough
  • Cystitis
  • Diarrhoea
  • Earache
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Hay fever
  • Indigestion
  • Insect bites/stings
  • Mild eczema/dry skin
  • Nasal congestion
  • Sore throat
  • Sprains/strains
  • Vaginal thrush

The Pharmacist will refer you to the GP if it turns out to be necessary.
